Moonrise Kingdom: Raccoon Patch Tutorial

Raccoon patch - Scouting arrangment

A couple of weeks ago we went to worship at the throne of Wes Anderson. Being a lover of all things fox, bear and woodland related, we have since been on a hunt for scouting equipment as wedding props. Invitations are currently at the forefront of our minds and we have spent quite a lot of time trying things out – particularly as Tom’s parents bought a letterpress the other week which is amazing (and lots more on that will follow)!!

In the meantime, we’ve been making patches. We started with fox and polar bear ones but now I offer you the Moonrise Kingdom racoon patch, as seen on the delectable Ed Norton (well, similar to!).

We started by drawing the raccoon shape, but you can download the template we created here. We then used the template to cut out the individual shapes from wool felt and layered them piece by piece, sewing around the outside. We started by using thread that matched the felt but I think they turned out better when it was a bit more hap-hazard.

I’m really pleased with how they’ve come out, now we just need to find a use for them!
